Oh No…A Big Crying Pregnant Woman

Now I don’t know what happened to all of you moms out there when you were/are pregnant. I know I have had four pregnancies and toward the end of each one of them - I had a really hysterical crying episode that I remember very well. I know everyone’s hormones are running wild during this time. I did cry here and there throughout the pregnancies….but these particular episodes really stuck out, even for those hormonal times. The first time it happened was the best though……

My husband was able to commute to work by bike or cross-country skis, depending on the weather, during this period. He was bicycling home one day and right in front of him someone threw a kitten out of their car window - just like it was trash. He brought it home. I was beside myself that someone would have such disregard for life. AND I am NOT a cat person…no offense to cat people. Keeping the kitten, however, was not an option, the landlord wouldn’t allow it and I am allergic. The fact that I had no idea how I would find the kitten a home made me even more hysterical.

So I took the kitten to the vet for shots reasoning I would have a better shot at finding her a home if her shots were up to date. While I was in the waiting room awaiting the vet, I was sobbing uncontrollably. I mean wet, messy sobbing - you know what I’m talking about. I could tell I was making the entire waiting room plus the staff nervous, but I couldn’t help it. I could hear people whispering that I must have to have the kitten put to sleep. It makes sense, why else would I be so hysterical?? Needless to say, I had a very wide berth in the waiting room…no one would get near me EXCEPT the bravest little boy who looked to be around 7 years old.

He came right up to me and asked a few questions about the kitten and started petting her. He then informed me he was there because his dog was hit by a car. This turned my hysteria up a notch. He quickly assured me though, that the dog was okay and asked if I wanted to meet her. Sure I did. He took me over to his mom, who was holding a leash belonging to a dog with a big old cast on its leg. The little boy’s mom said and I quote, “Honey, you need to pull yourself together.” Ya think??

Eventually I got in to see the vet. He was male and visibly uncomfortable at having to deal with me. I had only moderately “gotten myself together” at that point. We discussed the possibility of turning the kitten into an outdoor cat, he gave her the shots, and eagerly sent me on my way.

The next day at work, I was telling one of my co-workers this story. What would you say if I told you he had accidentally run over his family cat the week before right in front of the eyes of his wife and children??  You would say I was kidding, but NO, I am not kidding.  That’s what happened.  So obviously, I was able to find the kitten a home after all.  I’d like to think she is having a nice long life, has brought a lot of love into the lives of her  family, and has stayed out from underneath the wheels of cars.
