Living the Dream

Sparta company’s humorous T-shirts get positive responses

Sparta - Spotted on T-shirts nationwide, and most recently worn by Kate Gosselin of the TLC show, “Jon and Kate Plus ltdchix-spartaindependent8,” a Sparta company’s Living the Dream apparel is receiving positive responses from mothers who are happy to wear shirts which take a humorous look at motherhood.

The Living the Dream apparel is the brainchild of two New Jersey former career women who left the “rat race” for the “rug-rat race.”

Cindy Schmitzer, a former accountant and mother of four, founded LTDchix, LLC in 2006 with Nina Frye, a former account executive at a fortune 100 company. They found a way to celebrate their “stay at home mom,” or SAHM status, in an apparel company which they describe as both inspiring and humorous.

Recognizing the need for levity in the often competitive and frequently thankless world of child-rearing, Schmitzer and Frye showcase the “Living the Dream” mom, they explained, who delight “in the daily triumphs and tribulations of endless soccer practices, dance recitals, grocery shopping, homework and maintaining balance in her world, the ‘Living the Dream’ mom never forgets her sense of humor.”

That humor has made fans across the country.

“This is not the perfect mom, this is the real mom,” said Gaby Olson, one of www.LTDchix.com’s customers, who lives in Nebraska. ” I love what it says about motherhood. It may not often be glamorous, but it’s real and a sense of humor shines through in the ‘Living the Dream’ product. I wouldn’t change a minute of my day as ‘mom’. That’s what these great t-shirts say to me.”

LTDchix was recently honored as one of the Top 100 home-based businesses by Startupnation.com.”I do have to say, we are mostly about poking fun at motherhood, even though we love being moms, Living the Dream is a satire,” said Frye. “We all dreamed what motherhood would be like when we were young, but then reality sinks in.”

Their Web site also features for a blog for mothers so they can share their daily experiences.

“We are so flattered that our concept speaks to so many mothers out there,” Frye added. “We will keep striving forward to introduce more funny illustrations.”

The women have decided to launch designer Living the Dream shopping bags that are reusable and recyclable at Sparta Day. They will be offered in royal blue with the newest illustration - The Yoga Mom and a tan with a Shopping Mom on it.
